Hedley Studios, the maker of miniature driveable versions of luxury cars, has been rescued under a pre-pack administration deal led by US merchant banking group Island Capital. This move will protect the future of the company that is known for producing scaled-down electric models of brands such as Bugatti, Aston Martin, Bentley, and Ferrari.
FRP Advisory served as administrator and then sold the business to an entity controlled by Island Capital, which is the same firm that had invested in Hedley Studios back in 2023. The latest deal ensures continued investment in the company’s growth strategy and global expansion.
Founded in 2018, Hedley Studios gained early recognition when Bugatti commissioned a half-scale replica of its iconic 1920s Type 35 racing car to mark its 110th anniversary. Since this period, the company has supplied over 500 vehicles to customers in more than 60 countries in the past 17 months.
The company produces its high-end vehicles at 3 quarters the size of the original models, with prices typically starting at £75,000. Its collaboration with leading automotive brands has made the Studios a niche dealer in the high-end collectability automotive market.
While the exact financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, Island Capital’s renewed commitment signals confidence in the company’s business model. Island Capital founder Andrew Farkas said the investment reflects Ben and his team’s success in quickly building a British luxury brand.
Industry analysts note that although the market for collectible electric vehicles is small, demand among wealthy automotive enthusiasts remains resilient. Maintaining exclusivity will be a challenge to Hedley Studios, as the company will have to increase the volume of its production to meet growing global interest.
The rescue deal marks a new chapter for the company, with Island Capital aiming to reinforce Hedley Studios’ reputation as a creator of “luxury, driveable artworks.” If successful, the move could boost the UK’s position in the luxury electric vehicle segment and open new opportunities in global luxury markets.
