Background :
Plans for a centre supporting fledgling manufacturing, robotics and artificial intelligence businesses have received planning approval. The Industrial Solutions Hub, set to be built at Cleator Moor in Cumbria, will serve as a focal point for regenerating the Leconfield Estate and the wider area, according to Cumberland Council.
The development will provide workspace and meeting rooms for start-ups and early-stage businesses looking to establish themselves in the region. Mark Fryer, leader of the Labour-run local authority, which co-submitted the application to its own planners, said he felt confident the hub would support the foundation for future investment in the area.
Gary McKeating, managing director of the Industrial Solutions Hub, said the development would create a collaborative environment where industry, academia and innovators can come together to drive growth.
The enterprise campus on the industrial estate forms one part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal, a scheme aiming to revitalise the area using just over £22.5 million awarded by the government along with a further £18.4 million in match funding.
Other objectives under the scheme include bringing buildings back into use in the Town Square area, increasing sports and leisure provision, and improving transport connections across the town.
The hub adds to a growing list of regeneration projects planned for Cleator Moor, positioning the town as a rising centre for innovation and enterprise in Cumbria.
