Background :
Indian space-tech startup Pixxel has raised $100 million in a Series C funding round, marking the largest funding round by a space technology company in India.
Singapore state investor Temasek and UK based space technology venture firm Seraphim led the round, while existing investors Radical Ventures and growX Ventures also participated. Fresh investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment entered the round, lifting Pixxel’s total capital raised to $195 million.
The company, backed by Google, emerged during India’s push to open its space sector to private players. Awais Ahmed founded Pixxel with an initial focus on building hyperspectral satellites, which capture a wider range of the electromagnetic spectrum than conventional satellite imagery, revealing detailed information about the Earth’s surface. The startup has since grown beyond satellites into software and broader satellite systems.
Three pillars anchor Pixxel’s business today, the Honeybee satellite constellation, high-resolution optical imaging satellites, and the Earth intelligence platform Aurora.
It combines sensors, software, and space systems so governments, industries, and institutions can turn Earth observation data into actionable intelligence, going beyond imagery collection to build integrated planetary infrastructure.
Pixxel will use the fresh capital to expand its sensing capabilities and strengthen satellite infrastructure, focusing heavily on growing the Honeybee constellation and its optical imaging satellites.
Development of Aurora continues at the company. Pulling in data from multiple sources, the platform generates insights that help India’s private space sector grow.
