The Walt Disney Company has launched its new cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, as part of its expansion into Southeast Asia. The vessel will begin its maiden voyage this month from Singapore, offering three- and four-night cruises that sail entirely at sea.
The Disney Adventure is the eighth ship in Disney’s cruise fleet and the largest the company has built so far. The ship can accommodate around 6,700 passengers and nearly 2,500 crew members, making it significantly larger than Disney’s Wish-class ships. Company executives say the larger capacity allows Disney to deliver its signature entertainment, dining and service experiences on a much bigger scale.
The launch also reflects Disney’s broader plan to grow its cruise business globally. The company plans to add six new vessels to its fleet by 2031 as it looks to reach more international travelers. Stationing the Disney Adventure in Singapore gives Disney a direct entry into Southeast Asia, a region where the company previously had no cruise operations.
Disney already has a strong presence in Asia through its theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai. However, company leaders say Southeast Asia represents a new opportunity to connect with millions of potential guests who may not have experienced Disney attractions before.
Industry data also supports the move. The cruise sector in Asia has grown rapidly since the pandemic. The Cruise Lines International Association said Asia had about 2.6 million cruise passengers in 2024, a 13% increase from the year before.
Unlike many cruises that stop at different ports, the Disney Adventure will mainly focus on activities on the ship. It will have entertainment areas based on Disney, Marvel and other stories, along with theaters, shops and family spaces.
Disney has also designed the ship with Asian travelers in mind. The cruise will offer a wide range of dining options, including regional dishes such as Indian cuisine and popular beverages like bubble tea, alongside classic American food.
Executives say the ship will serve as a “brand ambassador” for Disney in Southeast Asia, introducing the company’s storytelling and entertainment to a new audience while strengthening its position in the growing global cruise market.
