NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc., Japan’s leading global ICT solutions provider, has upgraded its shared internal database platform by moving it to Oracle Autonomous AI Database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, cutting license costs by 43 percent.
The company, formerly known as NTT Communications, moved tens of terabytes of data from its on-premises environment. The platform hosts 12 critical internal systems for network management, security and service operations, and it connects to about 400 servers.
NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS set out to simplify its on-premises setup and use its resources more efficiently. The new platform keeps performance and security strong while automation makes daily database work easier.
Akihiro Ito, senior vice president of the Integrated Service Operations Division, said the flexible consumption model drove the savings. He added that automated patching, backups and routine maintenance have lightened administrative work, which lets the operations team focus on data use and business improvement.
The company also built a disaster recovery setup across two Oracle Cloud regions in Japan. This keeps operations stable and helps it restore services quickly after any disruption.
Automation has also shortened the time and effort needed to apply security fixes. That helps the company respond faster to emerging AI-enabled cyber risks.
Ito said the company plans to use the platform to draw more value from its data and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to improve efficiency and quality.
