Background-

The UK and Germany have unveiled a new Industrial Tech Corridor that links companies in both countries and opens the door to fresh investment, jobs and advanced technologies such as quantum.

The corridor builds on the Strategic Science and Technology Partnership and has backing from leading German firms including Allianz, Bosch, RWE and Siemens. It will bring industry leaders, tech companies and innovators together to work on AI and critical technologies.

The initial focus sits on AI and high-value industrial uses. A first dedicated roundtable will gather CEOs of selected industrial primes, AI scale-ups and senior officials. Firms in both countries will also develop scaled industrial use cases that match scale-ups with industrial demand.

Both governments will share about €20 million to speed up joint quantum research, from quantum computing to financial services applications and quantum sensors. The fund adds five research projects, lifting the total number of funded projects to 10.

German Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger said the corridor gives AI companies a strong launchpad to grow internationally and helps scale-ups reach Europe’s most advanced AI ecosystems, strengthening digital sovereignty. UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the agreements bring more jobs, investment and innovation for British tech, businesses and workers.

Companies are already moving. Munich-based MicroAGI will expand in London and create 180 jobs. Proxima Fusion plans to grow its Oxfordshire base and aims to quadruple its local workforce. Quantexa will build a sovereign unit in Germany to support AI deployment in both countries.
