Background :

Nvidia has announced a strategic investment in Thinking Machines Lab, an AI company founded by Mira Murati. The partnership will run for several years and focuses on advancing artificial intelligence technologies.

The companies confirmed the investment on Tuesday but did not disclose the exact financial value. As part of the agreement, Thinking Machines Lab will deploy at least one gigawatt of Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems. These are the chipmaker’s latest high-performance computing systems designed to support large AI workloads.

Thinking Machines Lab launched last year with the goal of developing AI systems that are easier to understand, customize and use across industries. The company has shared limited details about its long-term plans, but it wants to build AI technology that is more capable and easier for people to use.

Nvidia has become one of the main winners of the global AI boom. The company makes graphics processing units that run many advanced AI models and data centers. In recent years, it has invested in several AI startups, including OpenAI and Anthropic.

Murati previously worked at OpenAI as the chief technology officer. She also served as interim CEO for a short time when Sam Altman temporarily stepped down in 2023. Murati left OpenAI the following year and later launched Thinking Machines Lab.

The startup introduced its first product, called Tinker, in October. The tool is an application programming interface that allows researchers and developers to fine-tune artificial intelligence models.

Earlier this year, Thinking Machines Lab raised about $2 billion from investors to support its research and development efforts.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the partnership aims to push the boundaries of AI development and help build next-generation intelligent systems.
