Background-
Tech Mahindra has partnered with SpaceXSI, the AI firm led by Elon Musk, to use its Grok AI models in software development and in the modernisation of client systems.
The deal is the first between SpaceXSI and a major Indian IT company. Tech Mahindra will use the Grok Build coding agent, which supports several stages of development, including reading technical requirements, writing code, supporting testing and helping engineers update applications. The company plans to apply these tools across the full development lifecycle, not just isolated coding tasks.
Tech Mahindra aims to speed up delivery and raise productivity. It will also build industry-specific solutions for clients in technology, telecommunications, banking and financial services, and manufacturing.
Legacy systems will be a key focus. These platforms often hold millions of lines of code written over decades and link to databases, payment systems and other business processes. AI tools can analyse existing code, document systems, map dependencies and help engineers rewrite or migrate applications.
The company will train its employees and run certification programmes. The partnership also places Tech Mahindra inside the SpaceX Super Intelligence Partner Network, which supports firms that build products, services and integrations with Grok. More than 130 companies joined its early-access phase, and launch partners include Nvidia, Databricks and NTT Data.
Tech Mahindra already works with Google Cloud and Microsoft. TCS has agreements with OpenAI and Anthropic, and Wipro has similar deals.
