His journey from being a student of building construction management to having a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and later being elected as the university’s 8th president is inspiring to many.

Technologically oriented Dr. Bradford Sims was exposed to computer programming early in life when he received the Commodore 64 computer as a birthday present. Continuing on to college to pursue a bachelor’s degree in construction building management at Purdue University, Dr. Sims did gain some exposure to being a project management worker for industrial builders.

His technical experience afforded him the luxury of not only to oversee projects but also to be engaged in overseeing computer systems in all the organizations where he worked. Dr. Sims went back to school much later and obtained a Master of Science in Building Construction at the University of Florida and then a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue.

These studies provided his intellectual passion and, by the same token, provided him with his first working experience as a part of the scholar community as an assistant rank professor at the University of Florida. Over the next few years, Dr. Sims has held numerous different positions throughout higher education before reaching Capitol to take on the job of the university’s 8th president in 2017. Dr. Sims has helped bring his dual experience within construction and technology industries by launching the highest-ranked program of study on Critical Infrastructure upon taking the position as president.

Dr. Sims is still in touch with a few of the industry leaders who want to partner and collaborate in the long term, a win-win for the university as well as the organization. Dr. Sims is also attending regular education and technology seminars and conferences, one of them being the recent 2023 International Cybersecurity Forum North America.
