Background

Odyssey, an artificial intelligence startup company, has managed to acquire $310 million in its Series B financing round, bringing its value to $1.45 billion and allowing it to create more sophisticated AI systems capable of interacting with reality.

The funding round was led by Natural Capital and attracted participation from Amazon, AMD Ventures, Google Ventures, EQT and In-Q-Tel. Individual investors included Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean and Y Combinator President and Chief Executive Officer Garry Tan.

The investment underlines rising interest in next-generation AI technologies that go beyond traditional chatbots. Companies and investors are increasingly backing systems capable of performing complex tasks with minimal human involvement. Odyssey is focused on building world models that can understand, simulate and act within real-world environments.

According to Odyssey co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Oliver Cameron, recent advances in scaling, interactivity, multimodal capabilities and physics accuracy have accelerated progress in the field. He said the new funding will provide the computing power, infrastructure and partnerships needed to advance the development of general world models.

Alongside the funding announcement, Odyssey revealed a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Under the agreement, AWS will become the company’s preferred cloud provider, giving Odyssey access to specialized AI chips such as Trainium, which are designed for training and operating high-performance machine-learning systems.

The partnership will also support joint research projects and commercial efforts aimed at bringing Odyssey’s technology to market, particularly for applications that require significant computing resources.

Over the past three years, Odyssey has developed several research systems, including Odyssey-2 Max, Starchild-1 and Agora-1. These projects focus on improving physics accuracy, real-time multimodal interaction and coordination among multiple AI agents in simulated environments.
