Key Background:

On Thursday, Stellantis revealed a redesigned Jeep Cherokee, reintroducing the popular SUV after its 2023 discontinuation. The launch aims to help Jeep recover from years of falling sales and compete strongly in North America’s midsize SUV market.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee introduces Stellantis’ first hybrid powertrain in North America, featuring a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine. The company estimates that the new hybrid system will offer over 500 miles per tank, signaling a step toward more efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles. Jeep also highlighted a technology-rich interior, which includes the automaker’s new Connect One services package.

The reworked Cherokee is longer, taller, and wider than the previous-gen, along with 30% more cargo room, all to make space for family and thrill-seekers looking to maximize it.

Production will take place at Stellantis’ plant in Mexico, with vehicles expected to reach dealerships toward the end of this year and early next year.

The launch is part of Stellantis’ plan to boost Jeep’s sales after six years of decline. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, who assumed the role earlier this summer, emphasized the company’s focus on leveraging strong products and talented teams to drive growth. My first weeks as CEO have reinforced my confidence that we can fix Stellantis’ challenges by building on our strengths, the talent and ideas of our team, and the exciting new products we are introducing.

Even with challenges from tariffs during the Trump administration, which could cost around $1.74 billion, Stellantis expects its earnings to slowly improve in the coming months. The Cherokee’s comeback, equipped with a hybrid engine and enhanced features, offers Jeep an opportunity to improve its position in the SUV segment.
